Today, we meet Rose Perron, a digital nomad who is a web editor.

1-Tell us About Yourself

My name is Rose Perron, and I am a digital nomad and a web editor. I offer copywriting services while managing my business ONDAS from my backpack. In other words, from traveling the world.

I like to say that I love dark chocolate, long walks on the beach, and conversations about the place of women in society. I am also passionate about water activities and learning.

On a professional level, I teach training courses on becoming a digital nomad and write content for my clients.

2-Where Does Your Interest in Your Work Come From?

I always have enjoyed reading, learning, and human contact. I did not plan to write as a living; it happened by accident. It was a natural fit (and still is). I love that, and there is an infinite number of nuances, tones, styles, and techniques. I was able to develop my own sauce and feel delighted with my contracts.

3-How Did You Become Self-Employed?

I became a self-employed worker in 2020 when I lost my job in the tourism industry because of you know what. I was looking for a job I could do from other countries on my computer, and copywriting appeared in my life. It was a perfect match; I have been doing this since then.

The beauty of making my own way without a boss is that I could build my business precisely like I wanted it to be. I made it perfect for my nomad life.

4-What Is the Most Challenging Part of Self-Employment?

I would say that it is not working with colleagues. I enjoyed coming to work in the morning, talking with other people about their weekends, sharing my lunchtime with others, and sharing a common corporate culture. Collaboration feels different when you are alone in front of your computer all day.

To compensate for this, I started being active on LinkedIn and organizing many virtual coffees. This way, I managed to build a network of people who share my interests and challenges. I turn to them when I have questions, giving me social pauses throughout the day. They are now my colleagues.

5-Which Part of Being Self-Employed Do You Like the Most?

A flexible schedule and the possibility to choose contracts that are aligned with my professional goals and values are what I like the most. When it does not click, I am not embarrassed to refuse the offer or recommend a colleague that would be more appropriate for this kind of work.

My work is important to me, but it is not the center of my life. Having time to do sports, sleep more if needed, take opportunities, see our friends, and spend afternoons reading in the sun is vital. It is what a flexible schedule allows me to do. Everything at once, I do not have to make sacrifices that much.

6-Tell Us About Your Work Routine.

Usually, I wake up around 7 am. I read or watch a webinar to prepare my creativity and start my day smoothly. Then, I start working. If I have meetings, it is mainly in the morning. My Calendly calendar is open from 9 to 12, which allows me to be available in the afternoon to do activities or work in peace.

After, I generally work until 2 or 3 pm. I eat, and I read in the sun.

I spend approximately 15 to 20 hours weekly working for clients and another 1 to 10 hours on my content maximum. I rarely work more than 30 hours, and my main goal is not to work more than 20. I have a slowpreneur lifestyle and must have flexibility and time to do things other than work.

7-What Are the Online Tools You Could Not Live Without?

Undoubtedly, my Google Calendar reminds me of all my appointments and automatically sets the time zone. Honestly, the tools I open the most often are Momenteo, Hootsuite, Trello, and Canva.

8-How Did You Learn About Momenteo, and How Long Have You Used It?

I learned about Momenteo because of a friend who was using it. I did not know at this time what a good accounting software was, but I instantly liked its ease of use. Everything is intuitive and easy; it is possible to customize almost everything.

The price is affordable, and the customer service is just wow! Every time I had to ask for help by email, I had a quick and friendly answer. I always found a solution on the same day.

I have been using it for the last two years, and it is perfect for my work.

9-What Makes Momenteo Different from Other Accounting Tools?

The fact that it is simple to use, the interface is not overloaded, everything is customizable, it is available in French and English, and the customer service is incredible.

10-How Do You Find New Customers?

Since I started, my prospecting has been 100% free with the help of LinkedIn. I publish content 2 to 3 times per week and organize many virtual coffees with people from my network. I managed to find contracts and be recommended by colleagues this way.

Word of mouth from satisfied customers is also a good way to get new prospects. I would say it is the second most important channel of sales. I like it a lot when it is this way because I am not fond of cold calls at all.

11-What Are Your Tips for Someone Who Would Like to Get Into Freelance?

Start.
We often find all the reasons to avoid beginning our new life.

I am not qualified enough

I do not have enough experience

I do not have a degree

However, you can do anything when you are determined to learn and have skills for something. Therefore, I would say that the best tip would be to trust yourself and accept your first contract. Dare to offer services and have the confidence that you can achieve them. We all start from 0.

It is the same thing with nomadic life. We can start with a shorter journey, closer to home, with a friend, etc. And slowly, we become more confident and take more risks until we reach our dream life.

12-What Are Your Tips for Someone Who Would Like to Be a Digital Nomad?

Allow you some time to adjust. When you leave with an overbooked schedule, it will not help you be stress-free and spontaneous. When you travel for the first time, it can be a lot of pressure on your shoulders to deal with work, tiredness, jetlag, and adapt to your new apartment or environment.

Allow yourself some time to find the beat that works the best for you is essential.

Moreover, I think that being transparent with your clients plays an important role. They must know that you are far, that unexpected events can occur, that you might be less available for a few days, or that you need more time to complete a task. You must feel that you can tell the truth to your colleagues and clients; it is essential if you want to create lasting business relationships that work.

13-What Project Are You Most Proud of?

Without any doubt my training course on the nomadic life. It is a long-term project that allows me to share my experience as a traveler and a digital nomad. It is a 15-hour class that summarizes the processes of building a nomad business and how to become a slowpreneur, with a section on copywriting.

It is a complete and unique course that allows people to realize their travel dreams. I am super proud of it!

14-Do You Have any Big Plans for This Fall?

Regarding this fall, I plan to travel a lot. I am leaving Mexico, where I have been living for the last two weeks, to go back 100% nomad. It is super exciting and also very logistical. I cannot wait!

And I am also starting a YouTube channel on nomadic life. I will then create a lot of video content throughout my copywriting contracts.

15-How Can We Contact You?

I am super available! I love to get in touch with my community.

I can be contacted by email at rose@ondasmarketing.ca, on Instagram @ondasmarketing, on LinkedIn, and my business website.
