Freelancer: where do I work from?

One big decision to make when you decide to jump into the freelance world is where you will work from. Some people are homebodies and like to get most of their work done at home and some prefer social environments like coffee shops or coworking spaces! Truth is, when you are a freelancer, you can pretty much work from anywhere, that is, if you are willing to get some work done and not binge watch Netflix all day from the comfort of your bed (unless it’s sunday)! Wherever you work from, though, you need to keep in mind that your work environment is important for your success!   <h3>HOME OFFICE</h3> Some entrepreneurs just have it in them to stay at home and get most of their work there, and I applaud them. There are many advantages, as well as disadvantages to staying at home all day. Sure, it is fun to stay in your PJ’s all day and work from your couch but you need to make sure you are maximizing your work hours, yeah, those where you actually work! Those who can succeed in working from home often use a spare room or simply a quiet area in their house to make it their home office. Who is it for? People who are motivated, and like to get work done from the comfort of their homes. If you are going to meet clients or have phone meetings, it is prefered to have a separate room dedicated for your office. A great advantage is that you don’t have to pay extra rent for an office, and you can work at any hour of the day.   <h3>SHARED OFFICES</h3> Shared offices have become more and more popular its popularity have been increasing, especially in recent years. In fact, more and more companies have been opening their doors to some freelancers, by sparing them a desk or two in their offices. Also, we have been seeing multiple companies merging their offices, to share costs. This is particularly interesting when the companies offer complementary services. Who is it for? Someone who wants to share rent costs with a complementary company. Is it good for startups, to get yourself known or for established companies that require expertise or knowledge from another.   <h3>COFFEE SHOPS</h3> Some people prefer coffee shops to get some work done and I can’t blame them. Coffee shops has good music, cute decor and unlimited coffee, what else could you need? However, coffee shops aren’t for everyone: it isn’t a great idea for people who require to print a lot of stuff or for artist, for example. Who is it for? Coffee shops are great to work for a few hours, as it is often seen as an office escape to read a good book, enjoy an espresso and reply to emails. Our suggestions! In most of these spaces, you have the opportunity to rent a desk for a few hours a day, a few days in the week, or full-time, which accommodates all types of people and budget.
